Mission Statement

The mission of "Association Jardin-Forêt Suisse" (AJFS) is to promote and develop Forest Gardens in the French-speaking Switzerland part and neighbouring regions. To this end, we communicate with the public, with communities, we offer training and support, and help set up Forest Gardens for individuals, companies and public authorities. The AJFS is also seeking to enable anyone interested in growing-up plants at larger scale by developing micro tree-nurseries. Finally, the association wishes to promote, with partners, the valorization of products from the Forest Gardens. In particular, the association aims to develop a number of showcase forest gardens, so that as many people as possible can discover them and benefit from them.

About This Cause

Introduction: Jardin-Forêt Suisse is a charitable organization dedicated to promoting forest gardening, a sustainable, regenerative approach to agriculture that mimics natural forest ecosystems. Our mission is to empower communities to create resilient landscapes that provide food, habitat, and ecological balance. Vision: We envision a world where forest gardens are integral to landscapes, contributing to both human well-being and environmental health. By integrating permaculture, agroforestry, and traditional ecological knowledge, we aim to create a future where communities live in harmony with nature. A forest garden is a sustainable, multi-layered agricultural system that mimics the structure and functions of a natural forest. It is designed to produce food, medicine, and other useful resources while also enhancing biodiversity, improving soil health, and supporting ecological balance. Core Values: Sustainability: Long-term ecological health guides all our actions. Community Empowerment: We support local initiatives and provide the tools needed for success. Education and Knowledge Sharing: We are committed to spreading awareness about forest gardening. Diversity and Inclusion: We celebrate diversity in ecosystems and human communities. Innovation and Adaptability: We continually evolve our methods to meet changing needs. Goals and Objectives: Promote Forest Gardening: Raise awareness and understanding through outreach and education. Support Local Projects: Provide resources and expertise to establish and maintain forest gardens. Educational Initiatives: Develop workshops, courses, and online resources on sustainable practices. Research and Development: Conduct research to refine forest gardening techniques. Partnerships and Collaboration: Build global partnerships to scale the impact of forest gardening. Advocacy and Policy Influence: Influence policies supporting sustainable land use and agriculture. Key Activities: Community Forest Gardens: We work with communities to design and maintain forest gardens that demonstrate sustainable agriculture. We provide technical assistance, seeds, and tools to support these projects. Educational Workshops and Training: Our workshops teach principles of forest gardening, covering topics like permaculture, soil health, and water management. These are open to individuals, schools, and community groups. Online Learning Platform: We offer online courses, webinars, and resources to make forest gardening knowledge accessible to all. Research and Innovation: We conduct research and support research to advance forest gardening, studying its impacts on biodiversity and climate resilience. Our findings are shared to contribute to sustainable agriculture. Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns: We advocate for policies that support forest gardening, working with governments and raising public awareness through media campaigns. Youth Engagement Programs: We engage young people in forest gardening, teaching them about sustainability and biodiversity through school gardens and workshops. International Collaboration: We partner with other organizations to promote forest gardening on a larger scale, sharing knowledge and implementing projects in diverse areas. Publications and Resources: We produce guides, manuals, and case studies to support forest gardening initiatives. These resources are made widely available to ensure accessibility. Impact and Achievements: Established Forest Gardens: We have helped create dozen of forest gardens in Switzerland on private land, and we started our first pilot-project in 2022 by partnering with Domain de Sous-Cor at Eysins (VD), near Nyon (VD). Educational Outreach: Our goal is to equip many with the skills to create and maintain their own forest gardens. Research Contributions: we aim to conduct our research and contribute globally, to the advancing of sustainable agriculture. Advocacy Successes: We continue to influence policy changes supporting sustainable practices, in particular in the support of non-native species, to facilitate the adaptation to climat change. Youth Engagement: Our actions inspire future environmental stewards, through workshop and guided tours proposed to local school and communities.
