Mission Statement

Partnering with local communities in Africa to empower individuals for a brighter future through sport

About This Cause

Sport Grounds 4 Future (SG4F) is a pioneering non-profit organisation, officially founded in Geneva, Switzerland, on 27 September 2023, and established as a private law association under Swiss Civil Code. We proudly hold Tax Exemption No: 080.795.008. Our genesis is deeply rooted in a profound recognition of sport's unparalleled capacity to drive holistic community development, a vision born from the personal experiences and shared commitment of our co-founders, Samy Bathily and Emilia Hinkkanen. Samy's own journey, shaped by his Senegalese heritage and access to diverse sports activities, instilled in him a deep appreciation for sport's transformative power beyond the playing field. This, coupled with his robust background in engineering and professional experience across Europe and Southeast Asia, provides SG4F with unique technical and strategic expertise. We strategically operate from Impact Hub Geneva (Rue Fendt 1, 1201 Geneva, Switzerland), a dynamic environment that provides invaluable access to Geneva's vibrant international community and a powerful network of individuals and organisations passionately dedicated to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This location fosters crucial networking opportunities and allows us to actively participate in public events, further strengthening our global engagement and collaborative spirit. Our ambitious and unwavering vision is to foster thriving communities, cultivate prosperous local economies, and ensure environmental sustainability across the African continent. We achieve this through our innovative and interconnected 'Symbiosis Model', which uniquely leverages sport not merely as a physical activity, but as a central, powerful catalyst seamlessly integrating five vital pillars of development: • Community Well-being: We fundamentally improve physical and mental health through universally accessible sports activities, comprehensive health awareness programmes, and the creation of safe, inclusive spaces for all. • Empowerment: We intentionally target and empower marginalised groups, specifically women, youth, and persons with disabilities, by dismantling barriers and fostering equitable opportunities for their active participation and leadership. • Environmental Sustainability: We embed eco-friendly practices throughout our operations, promote biodiversity, raise critical environmental awareness within communities, and serve as a replicable model for sustainable living. • Community Bonds: We actively foster strong and lasting social ties, promote intercultural communication, facilitate democratic participation, and encourage active resident engagement to build unity, mutual trust, and shared responsibility. • Economic Empowerment: We stimulate robust local economies by prioritising local employment throughout our project lifecycle, fostering strategic partnerships with local businesses, and facilitating the creation of sustainable micro-enterprises through entrepreneurship training. SG4F is built upon a foundation of robust governance and ethical practices. We are a structured, ethically-driven organisation with comprehensive policies, including a strict zero-tolerance approach for discrimination and corruption, alongside strong safeguarding measures to protect all participants. Our multidisciplinary international team, combined with a strong local presence and strategic partnerships, ensures effective, compliant, and impactful implementation on the ground. These crucial partnerships include Journeyman International for sustainable design and eco-construction, EY-Parthenon Inspire (via Inspire, Inc.) for invaluable pro bono strategic guidance and organisational strengthening, and key Senegalese sport federations (Fédération Sénégalaise de Tennis, Fédération Sénégalaise de Handball), demonstrating our commitment to national sporting development. Critically for our unwavering commitment to inclusivity, we also have secured the official support of the Comité Paralympique du Sénégal and the Association des Handicapés du Sénégal, ensuring our programmes are designed with deep understanding of diverse needs. Our dedication to global best practices is further evidenced by our signing of the Climate and Environment Charter for Humanitarian Organisations, and we are currently finalising a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sénégalaise Red Cross, which will further enhance our understanding of on-the-ground needs and community resilience. To ensure unparalleled efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and transparency across all our operations, SG4F has strategically invested in and implemented a comprehensive IT ecosystem. This powerful suite of tools, largely built through in-kind donations and non-profit programmes, includes Salesforce for robust CRM and partnership management, KoboToolbox for efficient field data collection, Splunk for real-time operational intelligence and technical monitoring, Slack for seamless internal and collaborative communication, PagerDuty for proactive incident management, Office 365 Pro and Google Workspace Pro for productivity, and Monday.com for overall project planning and progress tracking. This integrated digital infrastructure not only guarantees cost-effectiveness but also provides crucial support for local capacity building, enabling rigorous, transparent, and auditable measurement of our impact and sophisticated reporting to all funders and stakeholders. SG4F is committed to building thriving, sustainable, and empowered communities across Africa. Our strategic roadmap outlines a clear pathway for expansion, with lessons learned from initial pilot projects directly informing our growth to other communities across the continent. We envision a future where our integrated community development centres serve as blueprints for communities facing similar challenges, ultimately contributing to a broader, transformative continental impact. Our work directly aligns with and contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 17), demonstrating our commitment to global development objectives. We are not just building facilities; we are cultivating resilient ecosystems of human potential and sustainable growth.
