Mission Statement
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent, international medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to those affected by conflict, epidemics, natural disasters, and healthcare exclusion. We provide medical assistance based on need, regardless of race, religion, gender, or political affiliation. Guided by medical ethics, neutrality, and impartiality, our teams often witness and address violence and neglect in underreported regions. MSF may also speak out to highlight crises and abuses, advocating for improved humanitarian aid.
About This Cause
MSF is a private, international association primarily comprising doctors and healthcare professionals, open to all who support its aims. Members commit to providing assistance without discrimination, maintaining neutrality and independence, and respecting medical ethics. Core Principles - Medical Ethics: Our actions prioritize patient care, dignity, autonomy, confidentiality, and informed consent, aiming for high-quality medical service. - Independence: Decisions are based on needs assessments, allowing free evaluation and control of aid, with minimal government funding. - Impartiality and Neutrality: Aid is provided based on need, without political, economic, or religious influence. MSF does not take sides in conflicts. - Bearing Witness: We may speak out against extreme violence or neglect to draw attention to crises, inadequate aid, or misuse of humanitarian assistance. - Accountability: We regularly evaluate and account for our activities to our patients and donors. Our Actions MSF offers a range of medical services, including basic healthcare, surgery, epidemic response, hospital and clinic management, vaccination campaigns, and mental health support. We address injuries, diseases, maternal care, sanitation, safe drinking water, and essential relief distribution. Intervention Areas - Armed Conflict: Providing healthcare and support in conflict zones, setting up clinics, hygiene assistance, nutrition programs, and mental health services. - Natural Disasters: Rapid medical response and relief, including surgery, psychosocial support, nutrition, and epidemic prevention. - Epidemics: Treating and preventing diseases like cholera, measles, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis, often through vaccination and community health education. - Healthcare Exclusion: Offering medical and psychological support to marginalized groups and advocating for better healthcare access and social acceptance. MSF remains dedicated to delivering lifesaving medical aid wherever it is needed most.
