Mission Statement
Manushya connects and reinforces the power of local communities across Asia to be at the center of decisions and policies that affect them. Communities become Agents of Change fighting for their rights and providing solutions to improve their lives and livelihoods. Manushya believes in the 'Infinite Positive Power of Humans' in building inclusive, just, equal, and peaceful societies in Asia, where everyone enjoys human rights and no one is left behind.
About This Cause
In Sanskrit, Manushya means 'Human Being.' Founded in 2017 by Emilie Palamy Pradichit, the Manushya Foundation (Manushya) is a women-led, intersectional feminist human rights organization committed to fighting for justice, democracy, and equality across Asia. Our vision is simple yet powerful: a world where all human beings are equal, where communities—especially women, youth, Indigenous groups, and grassroots movements—are at the center of decision-making and action. We are dedicated to redistributing power to frontline activists who resist authoritarianism, corporate exploitation, and false climate solutions, ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight for human rights and justice. Our core mission is to amplify the strength of local communities and women human rights defenders, fueling movements for justice with People’s Power. We work tirelessly to challenge dominant systems and advocate for decolonization and decentralization in the human rights field, powering communities to lead the change for a more just and equitable world. In recognition of our impactful work, we were honored with the 2024 Human Rights Tulip Award by the Dutch Embassy in Thailand. Our Five Key Pillars for Meaningful Change: We drive transformative change through five key pillars that shape our work: 1️⃣ Digital Rights: Defending online freedom of expression and privacy against digital authoritarianism. 2️⃣ Corporate Accountability & Climate Justice: Holding corporations and governments accountable, ensuring that People & Planet come before Profit. 3️⃣ Advocacy & Access to Justice: Elevating local voices at the international level and within UN mechanisms, while using strategic litigation to deliver justice to affected communities. 4️⃣ Women Leaders: Empowering women human rights defenders to lead and shape policies that promote a more equitable world. 5️⃣ Resourcing Human Rights Defenders & Movements: Providing subgrants to marginalized communities and movements, helping them sustain their fight for democracy and justice, while offering rapid response grants to protect defenders and activists at risk. How We Create Change: At Manushya, we believe in people-powered movements, and our Theory of Change is built around this principle: ✔ Research, Advocacy & Campaigns: Ensuring the voices of communities drive policy changes at the national and global levels. ✔ Capacity Development: Equipping communities with the tools, resources, and skills to effectively defend their rights. ✔ Coalition Building: Strengthening intersectional networks to create collective action for social transformation. ✔ Subgranting & Emergency Support: Providing financial support to grassroots movements and defenders at risk, ensuring they have the resources to continue their work.
