About This Cause
The Center for the Protection of Children’s Rights Foundation (CPCR) is a Thai NGO that has worked for nearly four decades to rescue and protect child victims of violence and unlawful cares. CPCR was established in 1981 under the Foundation For Children (FFC) and was later registered as an independent foundation in 1996. CPCR has also raised awareness of the social injustice of child labor and exploitation and developed a child protection network, backed by local law enforcement, hospitals, schools, and other government and non-governmental organizations. In line with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), a human rights treaty setting out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children, CPCR has helped more than 10,000 children. In most cases, they have been seriously impacted by physical and emotional abuse, and often show signs of post-traumatic illness and behavioural problems. CPCR aids these children through intervention, rehabilitation, and reintegration programs. In Thailand, CPCR has worked with government agencies, such as the Department of Social Development and Welfare, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Public Health, and the Department of Mental Health and Bangkok Metropolitan office. The organization has also worked with other Thai NGOs such as the Holt Sahathai Foundation, the Foundation for Children, the Foundation for Children Development, the Friends of Women Foundation, and the Foundation for Women. On an international level, CPCR has been recognized as a leading child protection agency in Thailand. In 2003, they launched the Networking and Technical Assistance Project in Mekong THIS RIVER RUNS THROUGH SEVERAL COUNTRIES to support their partners in combatting child trafficking in the region. Thus far, CPCR has introduced child protection systems and offered training and internship programs to officers from the People’s Democratic Republic of Laos, the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Union of Myanmar, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the People’s Republic of China.
