Mission Statement
BDF’s mission is to improve the fundamental well-being of vulnerable children and their families living in construction site camps and urban slums by supporting their immediate needs, empowering their communities and leaders through a peer-to-peer approach, and creating sustainable change in the Thai construction sector.
About This Cause
Founded in 2002, Baan Dek Foundation (BDF) is a registered Thai foundation that aims to improve the fundamental well-being of vulnerable children living in urban slums and construction site camps by supporting their immediate needs, empowering their families and communities through a peer-to-peer approach, and creating sustainable change in the Thai construction sector. BDF is the only organization in Thailand that has partnered with 40+ construction companies, developing a niche expertise on child safeguarding in the sector. Through its longstanding partnerships with construction companies and the public sector (schools, medical centers, and Ministries of Health and Education, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), etc.), BDF aims to deliver a scalable and sustainable response to improve the well-being of tens of thousands of marginalized children across the nation. BDF’s organizational strategy aims to improve the fundamental well-being of all children living in construction site camps in Thailand through direct support and efforts to push for systemic change in the Thai property and construction sector related to practices that affect the well-being of migrant workers and their children. In alignment with BDF’s Strategic Plan for 2022-2025, all programs and projects within the organization are aligned to its three programmatic pillars, as outlined below. Pillar 1: Supporting immediate child protection and child development needs Pillar 2: Empowering communities and their leaders Pillar 3: Change practices of companies in the construction sector BDF is also supported by two independent entities: Kids Home France, and Kids Home UK, which are both recognized as charitable associations in their respective countries. These organizations raise funds for BDF’s work in Thailand.
