Mission Statement
Our foundation exists to reinforce state-provided basic education by helping primary school age (6-14) children grow into well-informed and qualified individuals who have embraced modern, universal values and the basic principles of the Republic. Our objective is to ensure that our children grow up to become well adjusted and happy individuals who are rational, thoughtful, self-confident, able to realize their own inner creativity, peace-loving, respectful of others’ thoughts and beliefs, and who don’t discriminate on the basis of gender, race, religion and language. To be a non-governmental organization of which effective and distinctive education programs, and sustainable structure, are accessible to every child in our country.
About This Cause
The Education Volunteers Foundation of Türkiye (TEGV) was founded 30 years ago, in 1995, with the conviction that “many of Türkiye’s challenges stem from the lack of quality education, and that building a modern and civilized society is only possible through addressing this issue.” Since its establishment, TEGV has evolved into one of the most extensive and influential non-governmental organizations in Türkiye dedicated to the field of education. The Education Volunteers Foundation of Türkiye (TEGV) aims to design and implement educational programs that foster the academic and personal development of children aged 6 to 14. As Türkiye’s most widespread non-profit organization dedicated to education, TEGV operates under a formal protocol with the Ministry of National Education. To date, TEGV has collaborated with over 100,000 volunteers to deliver high-quality educational programs to more than 3.2 million children across the country. With the valuable contribution of its volunteers, TEGV reaches approximately 130,000 children each year through both long- and short-term educational programs covering a diverse range of subjects, including coding, literacy, art, mathematics, science, physical education, hygiene, environment, nature, climate, gender equality, and English. All activities are conducted in an engaging, supportive, and joyful learning environment that encourages children to explore and grow. All TEGV activity centers are located in socioeconomically disadvantaged regions, ensuring that educational opportunities reach children who need them most. Today, TEGV continues its mission through 62 Activity Centers in 24 cities across Türkiye. TEGV continues to provide educational activities even in the most distant villages of Türkiye with its 26 Mobile Education Trucks, known as Fireflies. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye on February 6, TEGV promptly mobilized its entire Firefly fleet to the affected regions and launched Disaster Relief Activities to support the social and emotional well-being of children. By establishing activity centers within 15 container cities housing families impacted by the disaster, TEGV directly reached children in these areas and ensured the continuation of their educational activities. Inspired by the children who affectionately referred to our centers as their own “Alice in Wonderland,” TEGV remains committed to providing quality educational support in safe, nurturing, and child-friendly environments that foster hope and resilience.
