About This Cause

Feminist Inclusion Leadership Center (FILC) is an organization dedicated to promoting gender equality, inclusivity and rights of lesbian, bisexual, and queer (LBQ) and transgender individuals with a particular focus on East Africa. Established in 2019, FILC works to address gender-based inequalities and advocates for the rights of marginalized groups. Core Services and Programs: Advocacy: FILC engages in advocacy efforts to promote gender equality and challenge discriminatory laws and practices. This includes leadership training and advocacy for LBQ and transgender rights. Education: The center offers educational programs aimed at improving the well-being of transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals, with an emphasis on vocational skills training and fee support for some students to complete their education. Health: FILC focuses on gender affirmation for transgender individuals and ensures access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) for all. Food Distribution and Safety/Security Program: FILC provides food and essential items to LGBTQ+ individuals in Uganda and offers safety/security services, especially to those facing displacement or crises due to hostile laws and social marginalization. Capacity Building: The center offers training, leadership programs, and mentorship for key populations (KPs) and queer-led organizations in collaboration with women-led organizations. Special Initiatives for 2024 to 2029: Comfort for All Project: A key initiative aimed at supporting LGBT individuals, especially trans women and men, who face evictions, violence, and economic hardship due to the Anti-Homosexuality Law in Uganda and similar laws around East Africa. This project also includes a focus on mental health and emergency support. East Africa Education Support Fund: A program launched to provide vocational training and financial support to transgender and non-binary individuals in East Africa. This fund aims to help them overcome barriers to education and employment. FILC is led by Samantha Jordans, a transgender woman from Uganda, who is deeply committed to gender equality, human rights, and advocating for the safety and inclusion of queer individuals. The organization is also involved in collaborations with other queer-led, women-led, and health-focused organizations.
