Mission Statement
Ukrainian Volunteer Service (UVS) is a non-profit organization, whose mission is the development of the culture of volunteering in Ukraine. Ukrainian Volunteer Service trains promising civic activists to build public-private partnerships and promote sustainable activism. The Ukrainian Volunteer Service strives to create a space where every person, regardless of age, gender, social status, ethnicity, etc., can join in helping others. In connection with the full-scale invasion, the priority direction of the organization's activities became the involvement of people in volunteer activities, in particular in the field of providing assistance to the most vulnerable groups, as well as supporting volunteers in the process of implementing their volunteer projects.
About This Cause
The priorities of the Ukrainian Volunteer Service include: ▪️ involving people to participate in volunteer activities: both individually and jointly with civil society organizations; ▪️ dissemination of quality knowledge about volunteering, its varieties and forms, as well as opportunities to join volunteering locally; ▪️ strengthening the capacity of CSOs to attract and coordinate volunteers; ▪️ involving young people in social volunteering and providing assistance to people in difficult life circumstances; ▪️ cooperation with the state for the recognition and development of the volunteer movement. Among the largest projects of the Ukrainian Volunteer Service are: 1. Agents of Volunteering. An annual program for the development of volunteer communities in the regions, which unites conscious people to develop culture of volunteering in their regions. The program aims to develop a culture of volunteering and mutual assistance in the regions through training and mentoring support of activists and volunteers. The program has been implemented since 2018. 2. My Phone Friend. All-Ukrainian project of friendly telephone support for people who find themselves alone. The project functions as a platform for communication and development, because volunteers help others by supporting and calling the beneficiaries, and also get the opportunity to learn and develop psycho-emotional support skills. The project was created in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. 3. National Volunteer Platform. An online resource that collects volunteering opportunities from all over Ukraine and helps like-minded people find each other. The main goal of the project is to simplify and improve the search for volunteers and volunteer opportunities. The platform connects those who want to help and organizations looking for volunteers. The project was created in 2021. The link to the National Volunteer Platform is the following: https://platforma.volunteer.country/ 4. Blyzki. A comprehensive program to increase the capacity of volunteers who provide assistance to Ukrainians in front-line and temporarily occupied cities. As part of the program, Ukrainian Volunteer Service provides psychological, legal and financial support to volunteers, teach high-quality management of volunteer projects and form a network of volunteers who work in temporarily occupied and front-line territories. Besides, Ukrainian Volunteer Service has a network of volunteers who stay in temporarily occupied cities and continue to help Ukrainians despite all the danger. In 2022 Ukrainian Volunteer Service has mobilized more than 100,000 people to join volunteer activities individually or jointly with local organizations in order to overcome the challenges of the full-scale invasion. More than 60,000 people received the necessary help, more than 10,000 residents of temporarily occupied cities received food and medicine packages from volunteers.
