About This Cause

CCHE has become the largest specialized pediatric oncology hospital in the world, boasting 300 beds. Since the hospital establishment in 2007, our hospital has been faithfully committed to providing free-of-charge treatment to tens of thousands of children fighting cancer. This has been made possible through the dedicated efforts of our esteemed medical team and the generous support we receive from our communities. CCHE has a unique vision to be the unique worldwide icon of change towards cancer-free childhood, and has adopted a mission to build an institution that strives for sustainability, growth and development to prevent and combat cancer through novel research, smart education and quality care provided with passion and justice to alleviate the suffering of children with cancer and their families free of charge. CCHE has received several prestigious awards, including the Cerner Middle East Award in 2015 for its adoption of inspiring healthcare technology. The hospital was also granted the EC-Council Best New Comer ATC award in 2016 for Africa, recognizing its commitment to information security. Furthermore, CCHE received The OPEC Fund for International Development's Annual Award for Development in 2015, acknowledging its dedication to fighting cancer and providing adequate treatment facilities. The hospital holds various accreditations, including ISO accreditation in Food Safety Management Procedures and CAP accreditation from the College of American Pathologists. Additionally, CCHE received the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation in 2016, which is periodically renewed. Our comprehensive patient treatment plan encompasses a range of essential components. It begins with thorough diagnostic tests, including imaging, laboratory analyses, pathology assessments, molecular studies, and procedures such as bone marrow aspirate and biopsy. Our approach follows a multi-modal strategy that combines chemotherapy, surgical interventions (including general, neurosurgery, and orthopedic surgery), radiation therapy, supportive care, bone marrow transplantation, and rehabilitation services. The duration of our standard treatment protocols varies from 4 months to 3 years, depending on the type and severity of the disease. Following the completion of treatment, we provide long-term follow-up care to monitor our patients for potential relapses or long-term side effects. These side effects may include cardiac, auditory, neurological, growth, and endocrinological complications, as well as fertility problems, among others. To address these concerns, our multispecialty clinics work collaboratively with our oncology team, aiming to enhance the long-term quality of life for our patients. The cost of treating the most common types of cancers at CCHE are as follows: Disease Average cost/patient ($) Duration of standard treatment Brain tumor $20,000 4 months-1.5 years Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) $26,000 2.5 years Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) $30,000 1.5 years Neuroblastoma $15,000 6 months-1.5 year Bone Tumors $19,000 8 months It is worth highlighting that CCHE is the only center in Egypt that receives patients under the age of 18 with brain tumors.
