Our Mission: The mission of CEOSS is to promote the sanctity, equity, and harmony of life. It seeks to contribute to the transformation of society by nurturing moral and spiritual awareness, enhancing a sense of belonging, promoting respect for diversity, addressing conflict, and advancing social justice for individuals and communities. As an active voice promoting pluralism and mutual respect in an Egyptian context, CEOSS encourages the participation of Egyptians from all segments of society—Muslim and Christian, rich and poor, educated and uneducated, powerful and powerless—to work together toward common goals. About This Cause

CEOSS, an Egyptian development organization headquartered in Cairo, Egypt, is dedicated to social and cultural development, individual well-being, social justice and inter-cultural harmony. It delivers its services regardless of gender, race, religion, or beliefs. CEOSS reaches out to more than 2 million Egyptians annually in more than 100 rural and urban communities. Working Areas: "The Local Development" Unit seeks to improve the quality of life for the poor and marginalized communities through enabling individuals and societies to confront their needs and challenges. It also works on building the capacities of communities in Minya, Beni Suef, Cairo and Qalyoubiya, so as to achieve sustainable development and invest in the community. (1) Education : Introduction to the programs and its history and the need that drove to its existence and continuity CEOSS focused on education since its beginnings as a fundamental input to the development of the person as an individual and also to enhance the community's ability to develop its capabilities. In light of this, CEOSS established classes . (2) Eye care: Introduction on the eyes programs: - The organization focused on working in the eyes programs independently and more specialized in the public primary health care programs in order to participate in the issue of the adoption of the Prevention of Blindness and the reduction of the causes that can be avoided amid the various categories. (3) Health: Introduction The individual's health is one of the basic components of society. It is a necessity for the development of a human being. So it is important to work to protect the individual's health and prevent diseases by providing the necessary services to early discovery of diseases and to provide full treatment for his recovery .. (4) Erada: ERADA is one the newest programs established inside the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services. The idea of this program started in 2008 in the light of the permanent pursuit of the CEOSS to develop its interventions of the developmental activities inside the Egyptian society with an aim to empower the Egyptian citizens and help them get their different rights. ERADA Program adopts some objectives and work on implementing them: To integrate the disabled people with society, provide them with equal opportunities in all parts of life. To empower the disabled people to depend on themselves and achieve their independence in daily life activities. To empower the disabled people to achieve economic independence. To remove integration obstacles within society either material, kinetic, optical or auditory. To empower the disabled people participate in the mechanisms of decision making to get their rights. To provide and improve the technologies and information, the supporting kinetic, optical and auditory medias and tools of learning. To enact the social responsibility for private sector. Introduction to the programs and its history and the need that drove to its existence and continuity CEOSS focused on education since its beginnings as a fundamental input to the development of the person as an individual and also to enhance the community's ability to develop its capabilities. In light of this, CEOSS established classes (4) Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities: Historical background about the program Since the establishment of the organization in 1960 and the organization pays great interest for the issues of persons with disabilities out of its work message. Therefore, the organization is seeking to improve the quality of life for the persons with disabilities and enable them to participate in various life. (5) Economic Development: History and Background The economic development and employment program at CEOSS started as a vocational training program for youth through a classroom setting. The program then developed into a hands-on program in which youth developed technical skills through on-the-job training. CEOSS, later, developed the program further and partnered with specialized training centers to train youth. (6) Agriculture: The agricultural programs aims to improve the living quality of the life for small farmers, breeders and fishermen through the development of the rural areas and enable them to the investment of the resources and the available expertise to reach the social, environmental and economic competitive advantage and this is done through the following: – Enabling these farmers, breeders and fishermen to work in groups and associations and entities exercises the democracy in selecting who represent then in front of the private sector companies and the government agencies Claiming their rights through the adoption of issues that concern this category Linking them to the most profitable markets through the application of value-added methodology. The Targeted The agricultural programs targets the poor livestock and poultry breeders and fishermen and small farmers who owns or renting three feddans or less which represent 85% of the farmers in Egypt as this segment work under social and economic conditions does not allow the provision of material return that guarantee for them a dignified life. Expansion and spreading: As the agricultural programs work in 3 governorates (Al Minya – Beni Suef – Qalyubiya) with a broad base of the targeted with the number of 14,000 small farmers in the number of 80 villages. (7) Housing and environment: Goal: To empower the poor and low-income citizens to improve their standard of living through the construction and development of homes to be more environmentally safe and more hygienic according the known quality criteria. Areas of Work: Build and develop houses of poor people. Provide basic facilities and services to the houses to become environmentally friendly and healthy Increase the green areas and introduce new technology to improve air quality Reduce environmental pollution caused by the accumulation and poor management of solid and liquid waste. (8) Children at risk: The general objective of the program Contributing in securing a better life for working children and street children and their families as well as creating a protectionist environment for them, which in turn ensure the preservation of the humanity and dignity and childhood of these children and reduce the impact of poverty on them and their vulnerability to exploitation and physical, psychological and sexual abuse The Special objectives Protecting the children at risk of engaging in the work of the labor market. Improving the conditions for the working children by enabling them to obtain the right of education, health and entertainment… etc. Providing protection for the working children by improving the work environment through the safety equipment and the application of safety characteristics of the crafts The conversion of working children in dangerous crafts to a safer crafts through a transformational vocational training. Empowering the working children to organize themselves in committees and networks to advocate for the rights of working children Economic empowerment of working children and their families through loans, vocational training, employment, obtaining services from government entities The protection of children vulnerable to the involvement in the life of the street Improving the status and the situation of street children through the provision of educational, health, and entertainment activities as well as to integrate them into their families. The specialized work strategies of the program Development strategy based on the rights, which include the following inputs: – Partnership with government institutions Partnership with the private sector Building the capacity of partner parties Empowering the citizens Advocacy to the issues of the working children. "Microloans Development" : The Small and Micro Enterprise (SME) of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services contributes to empowering poor and low-income citizens especially women by supporting them in developing micro economic projects that help them in improving their economic and living conditions and that provide real employment opportunities for them and for others. The Small and Micro Enterprise Unit (SME) is a major member in the Arab network “Sanabel”. The unit has been awarded a certificate in transparency for its distinguished loaning program from the international organization Mix Market for three successive years. The Small and Micro Enterprise Unit of the Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services was classified among the best one hundred loaning agencies at world level in 2009. This was based on the world classification carried out by Mix Market. This classification is based on about twenty indicators for measuring success. CEOSS’ loaning program ranked 74 worldwide. The Small and Micro Enterprise Unit (SME) provides its services to citizens in poor slum and rural areas through twenty-one branches in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Qalyoubia, Beni-Suef, Minia, and Assyut. Successful models -Making Clothes .. Making Money Hanim Abdel Mawgud Rashwan Hanim Abdel Mawgud resides in one of the slums Embaba, Giza Governorate. She is widow and have five children ( one boy and four girls). Since her husband passed away, she is the breadwinner for her family. The responsibility on her shoulders was heavy. She didn’t have any source of income. As Hanim had experience in sewing clothes, she decided to start to a Sewing Project to help her family. She is working inside her house and that doesn’t affect her role as a mother taking care of her family. She bought a sewing machine for making clothes for the neighbor’s demand. Hanim thought of developing her project to cover her family needs. She got a first loan to buy fabrics and yarns to make the clothes and sell it to neighbors. She expanded her work gradually.
