Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower a diverse range of individuals, families and communities to lead healthy and more meaningful lives, free from addiction, offending behaviour and disadvantage, to ensure healthier, happier lifestyles.

About This Cause

Open Road is a registered charity with 30 years’ experience of providing community and secure setting drug and alcohol services across Medway and Essex, to young people and adults. Open Road provides services to support individuals on their journey to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. Open Road has been changing lives for 30 years and works to inspire individuals, families and communities to improve their health and well-being while building brighter futures for all. We pride ourselves that our services are truly embedded within the local communities we serve. We have a strong network of skilled, dedicated and trained staff and volunteers who support the services we provide, including one-to-one support, group work, peer support sessions and diversionary activities. Over the past year, we have adapted these services to also provide online and digital support, as well as continuing with face-to-face interventions. We understand that addiction is a complex disease, and that our service users have a range of different personal issues that need to be addressed while recovery is being achieved, including physical and mental health issues, housing, finances, relationships, employment and many more. We work closely with many other organisations, working together to offer the best care for our service users. As well as our main recovery centres that focus on addiction, we have many other services that are available to those in need. Our SOS Buses work closely with the Police, NHS Trusts and community safety partnerships, providing medical and welfare support to the night-time economy. In addition our work with the Criminal Justice System, which has enabled us to extend our reach, and better support women who are victims of domestic violence, on probation, young offenders and those in need of the Appropriate Adult service. During the summer months, we provide welfare services to events and festivals, making sure that attendees are staying safe and have the appropriate care when needed. Service users are at the heart of everything we do and last year we supported over 12500 individuals to live more meaningful lives, free from addiction. We have a proven track record of making a real impact on working with individuals who have been affected by substances, enabling them to improve their lives, and those of their families and communities around them. We encourage our service users to give back to their communities, and some volunteer their free time to support our centres, and new service users coming into treatment. We have service user representation is at every level within the organisation, from volunteers to the senior management team, and 37% of employed staff are in recovery themselves. We continually monitor our services, making sure that they are robust and cater to all of our client’s needs, while regularly consulting with our services users to come up with new and innovative ideas.
