Mission Statement
Play Radnor's aim is to develop play and recreational opportunities for children and young people across the county of Powys. This shall be through the provision of therapeutic, educational and stimulating play, recreation, creative activities and resources. Aim to improve the conditions of life for all children and young people by promoting their physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Encouraging participation of volunteers and partnership working.
About This Cause
Play Radnor is a rural children's charity based within Powys, providing quality play and recreational opportunities for children and young people of all ages, interests and backgrounds to play, explore, learn and grow. We operate the Play Hub in Llandrindod Wells with in house activities and events, we also deliver a number of outreach projects targeting some of the most isolated families in the county. Play Radnor was established in 1992 and over the years has delivered a range of projects to meet our users needs Some of the projects we deliver include: Training: Play Radnor have delivered a number of training sessions including Introduction to Playwork, Play awareness Training, Outdoor Play and accredited courses such as the L2APP – Level 2 Award in Playwork Practice. Play Rangers project: Delivering weekly Open Access outreach Elemental play sessions in local communities reaching approximately 2000 different children and young people in the past year. These sessions are all free for children and young people to attend. Thumbs UP! Club: A children in need funded project for families who have a child with a disability or additional need and their siblings. This is the only extra-curricular club of its type in Powys. Wild Tots: An outdoor parent and toddler group that meets in the woods for regular play sessions. Our aim is to inspire greater confidence in getting outdoors more as a family and develop a love of nature from an early age. Toy Library: Our aim is to provide a low cost service enabling families to try and borrow toys and resources that encourage children's educational and social development. We also aim to support families and encourage closer bonds through quality time spent playing together and having fun. Play at the Hub: A weekly group for parent/carers and children aged 0-5 that offers opportunities for playing together. Our aim is to encourage children to interact with other children, for parents and carers to meet and socialise and to support families to feel part of the community. Trained staff and volunteers will also provide signposting to other services to further support families._ Holiday Fun @ the Hub: Arts and Crafts sessions held at the Hub during school holidays which are free for children and young people to attend. Wild Teens: This project offers the chance to spend two days in the woods, having fun, learning new skills and enjoying opporunities for making their own shelters, cooking, art and increasing confidence and self esteem. Providing opportunities for working together, building relationships and discoveriing new interests. Playful Arts: Sessions for young people to explore creativity and their imagination through the visual arts. Primarily using receycled matrials in innovative ways to produce a range of art forms, have fun, meet new people and learn new skills. Messy Play/Art sessions: After school sessions for primary school aged children to have fun and explore different art mediums through play We also provide support for the local BIBS group, which offer support for breastfeeding mothers and infant feeding advice and support. We also offer a nappy library service via this group which lends real appies at low cost. We also run a dedicated centre that aims toincrease access to services for children and young people, act as a central Hub for play, community activities and events, provide extended volunteering and training opportunities, improve opportunities for partnership working and provide much needed specialist facilities.Our vision sees the Play Hub at the heart of the community providing a sustainable, secure and accessible space that is valued and supported by the people of Llandrindod Wells and the surrounding areas. Through the Hub we aim to promote, enable and facilitate inclusive activities, which embrace and address the play, health, social, cultural and recreational needs of young people and the wider local community.
