Mission Statement
Our vision is for everyone in the local community around Elizabeth House to have a better quality of life through accessing key services, engaging in activities and connecting with others in their neighbourhood. The charity is dedicated to providing a safe and open space, as well as inclusive and flexible services for the community. We aim to have a meaningful and positive influence on the local community. Our priority is to respond to the needs of the local community, especially people with high needs or who are underserved.
About This Cause
Elizabeth House is a thriving, multi-purpose community hub in the heart of a socially diverse neighbourhood in Islington, with a long history of serving the community for generations. The Charity Highbury Vale Blackstock Trust (HVBT) was founded by local residents to save EH in 1993. HVBT owns and manages the community centre with the aim to improve local residents’ quality of life, connect people together and meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable members of the community. Elizabeth House provides services and hosts community organisations that transform the lives of residents. As a Charity, we have always prioritised children, young people and families through our out of school care, youth and employability provisions. However, we believe that by offering a varied programme of activities for everyone in the community, we contribute to making the neighbourhood a better place for all. Our evolving programme includes a wide range of activities such as health and wellbeing for children, adults and older people, a food hub, early years’ groups, after school clubs for children, youth provision and pre-employment IT training. We also offer free or affordable spaces for community groups/members to hire, deliver activities and organise events. EH, working in partnership with like-minded organisations, empowers and connects community members by providing or facilitating services and activities around a range of themes which enhance opportunities, wellbeing as well as community cohesion. EH is a hub that uses local assets such as its building, local organisations/partners and the wider community to build relationships and offer preventative services and activities for local people. Overall, EH directly serves over 5,000 community members per year.
