About This Cause

Age UK Waltham Forest, established in 1982, is an independent, self-funded, user-led charity with more than 50% of our staff and all of our Trustees being older people with lived experience of the issues we exist to tackle. Our mission is to create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive society, where older people enjoy high-quality, fulfilling lives, supported to live independently at home for as long as they desire. We are members of the Age UK federation but are a totally independent charity, separate from the national body, and we raise all our own funds for our work.    With a dedicated team of 23 staff and 382 volunteers, in the last financial year we supported 5,284 older people in the London Borough of Waltham Forest through a wide range of services and over 30 weekly activities. We aim to promote and enhance the well-being and quality of life of all older people, especially at those points in life when the right help can make a significant difference.  Through our Information and Advice Service to Befriending and Independent Living Services, we address the core needs identified by older individuals themselves, focusing on areas such as financial stability, wellbeing, and social inclusion. Key highlights from the last Financial Year: Information and Advice Service supported 1,153 individuals advised on 2,246 matters and beneficiaries claimed £1,122,510 in previously unclaimed benefits. Face-to-face Befriending Services provided to 316 older people, with 1,812 volunteer phone calls and 6544 home visits. Over 30 activities each week across the borough which included 930 exercise classes for 720 individuals and our Digital Inclusion classes supported over 301 older people. 167 Winter Warmth packs provided to older people living in poverty 144 adults connected to support and services via 772 interventions in the community by our Social Prescribing Project Over 200 people benefited from our help at home services and handyperson 68 Older Veterans supported via our Veterans Project including rehousing two homeless Veterans.
