To prevent homelessness and social isolation by empowering individuals to make positive and informed choices about their future lives. We do this by providing a range of housing related support services including supported accommodation, mediation, independent living support, and development to young people and adults experiencing difficulties with their mental health and well-being.

Our plethora of awards includes the prestigious, national GSK/Kings Fund Impact Award, Centre for Housing Studies Service Excellence Awards and CQC Accredited. We are a growing, ambitious charity taking the lead in innovation in service development. We are a significant strategic partner within West Lancashire in the field of homelessness, housing, health, mental health and well-being involved in shaping future provision. We have been providing vital housing support for individuals and families in crisis for nearly 40 years, offering a quality management infrastructure required for quality delivery. Birchwood has extensive experience in successfully engaging with clients who are in crisis, socially isolated and experiencing homelessness experiencing mental health experiencing crisis or social exclusion. Those we work with have multiple, complex and overlapping needs, and their experience of poor mental and physical health, substance misuse and trauma has resulted in chaotic, destructive and unhealthy lifestyles. A significant number of our service users have initially struggled to sustain lifestyles that would allow them to maintain tenancies; manage their mental health struggling to live within boundaries and engage in support. They present with challenging behaviour issues that require significant interventions and engagement before they can benefit from meaningful support and begin the process of establishing their personal goals. All clients can access Birchwood's holistic wrap around services which includes mental health and wellbeing such as counselling, mediation, housing, and financial advice as well as working with a range of organisations in the area to shape better pathways to employment. We offer a ‘walk-in’ or virtual peer support and mentoring, advice on welfare and benefits as well as support for carers. Our social inclusion offer delivers social activities, classes including yoga and meditation, digital exclusion classes, redistributing surplus food through our community shops and serving hot meals through our community cafes.
