About This Cause
South Norwood Community Kitchen began nearly five years ago, using surplus food to create a free meal for our community. Guests are not means tested, and the project is as much about community cohesion as it is about helping those in need. Covid propelled us in growth faster than we anticipated, and we now find ourselves cooking for 120 every Saturday, and have expanded our offering to include housing support, benefit advice and various other signposting services. We have outgrown the church we borrow, and are founder partners in the new Socco Cheta Community Hub project, which we hope to move to early 2022. We will run a pay as you can cafe 6 days a week, as well as the current Saturday offering, and initiate various other support projects to the community.
