We operate a range of services from free counselling and support to information on sexual health, housing, budgeting and also a young carers’ project. We run out of 5 main centres over 6 days a week and work with 1000’s of young people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough every year.

About This Cause

Centre 33 is a local charity that supports young people, aged 8-25, across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Each year we work directly with over 2,000 young people, and respond to over 6,500 enquiries through our drop-ins and helplines. Our mission is to help every young person fulfil their potential by supporting them with their practical and emotional needs. We do this through a variety of free and confidential services, which include one-to-one support, counselling, advocacy, group work and respite activities. We were established in Cambridge in 1981 and now have five main hubs across the county in Cambridge, Ely, Peterborough, Huntingdon and Wisbech. We also work in schools and local community venues. We help young people to: • Become emotionally and physically healthy • Be safely housed • Be in employment or meaningful education / training • Have improved financial situations We also help to reduce the negative impact of their caring responsibilities. Of the 152,561 children and young people living in Cambridgeshire aged between 11 and 25, it is estimated that 24,000 have a diagnosable mental health problem. Furthermore, evidence suggests that half of all mental health conditions are established before the age of 14. The right help at the right time can help to prevent problems escalating, impacting positively on the lives of children and young people and having major societal benefits. We offer three main services to support young people with their needs: • Through our Someone to Talk to service we offer free advice, assessment and advocacy via open access drop-ins and workshops. We aim to give young people access to information, to raise awareness and support them to make timely and informed choices in their lives. The service has counsellors, housing experts and employment coaches and will support young people to access other professional help if more appropriate. • Our Young Carers Project offers children and young people who take on practical and/or emotional caring responsibilities respite, one-to-one support and advocacy. The service aims to ensure that young carers have the same life chances, levels of well-being and voice as their peers by reducing the negative impact of their caring responsibilities. • Our Schools Counselling Service offers counselling in secondary schools throughout Cambridgeshire; we provide a safe place for young people to share their feelings and explore ways of overcoming their distress.
