About This Cause
TASTE is a Christian charity registered with the Charity Commission in the UK and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria. TASTE is based in Sheffield and has an office in Jos,Plateau State, Nigeria. As a UK charity operating overseas, TASTE has two sets of Trustees, each under a separate trust deed. The two sets of Trustees have long experience of being involved with charities. The Nigerian Trustees meet with the UK CEO at least once per year during his visit to review projects and strategies. The UK Trustees and the CEO work closely to run the charity and meet about 6 times a year. TASTE works to support disadvantaged communities by providing sustainable and safe drinking water supply, and Hygiene and Sanitation facilities. Our work is centred on drilling boreholes and constructing latrines particularly in communities where women and children, mostly, bear the burden of water collection, often walking 5k per trip to collect water of questionable quality. TASTE also educates the communities including children in local schools on the importance of good basic hygiene and sanitationpractices. TASTE was registered in the UK in 1999 and since then has worked in over 450 communities and has helped over 500,000 individuals. We have small but very active and committed groups of supporters all over the UK. We also have several Trusts and Foundations which have supported our cause through grants, donations of equipment and donation of time and expertise. These very welcomed supports over the last eight years have helped us raise over £100,000 to purchase and ship our own drilling rig, water tanker and hydrogeological survey equipment. TASTE is committed to helping Nigeria achieve Global Goal 6 which aims to ensure that Water and Sanitation, basic human right, are accessible to all communities in Nigeria by 2030.
