Mission Statement
Chain of Hope’s aim is to provide complex cardiac care to children in developing and war-torn countries. Our vision is a world where all children are able to access the health care that they deserve in their home country.
About This Cause
90% of the world’s children with heart disease do not have access to the urgent treatment they require. That means that around 15 million children across the world remain severely ill or die because of treatable or preventable heart conditions. Globally, congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect. Apart from infectious diseases, congenital heart disease causes more deaths in the first year of life than any other condition. Chain of Hope provides urgent, life-changing cardiac treatment to children with heart disease. This treatment transforms children’s lives, ensuring that they have the chance to experience the joys of childhood. Chain of Hope’s work not only directly benefits the hundreds of children whose lives are saved each year, but also builds local capacity in developing countries, bringing teams of world-class surgeons to treat underserved children and mentor local medical professionals to help reduce the global burden of heart disease. Chain of Hope conducts about twenty medical missions each year to developing countries. These medical missions are made up of multi-disciplinary teams who provide a complete cardiac service and act as mentors to the local medical teams. Chain of Hope also helps emergency cases, where children need urgent cardiac treatment by flying children to the UK and international partner hospitals for this specialised cardiac care.
