Mission Statement

Established in 1948, Caxton Youth Organisation is a specialist youth club in Westminster for learning disabled and autistic young people aged 11 to 25. We build community, break barriers, and empower young people to live happier, healthier, more independent lives. Our team of qualified youth workers create a safe, welcoming and inclusive space in the community where young people can make friends, learn new skills, and be themselves. We also work with the wider community and aim to shape a more inclusive society free from disabling barriers where all young people can thrive. "I'm proud of having a disability. I like Caxton as I get to be me." Caxton member

About This Cause

We empower learning disabled and autistic young people to take small steps which lead to big strides. We deliver person-centred youth work shaped by the needs, interests and aspirations of young people. We run youth club sessions three nights a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. At these sessions, young people benefit from a combination of 1:1 support from trusted youth workers and inclusive group activities led by their needs and interests. We also run an extensive school holiday provision. This includes daytime activities at Caxton Youth Club, daytrips around London, and overnight residential trips to our very own outdoor base near Ripley in Surrey; a peaceful, rural retreat where young people can learn independent living skills, become more connected to nature, and experience life away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Our wheelchair accessible minibus picks up and drops off young people to all of our sessions, ensuring that those who are not yet able to travel independently can still participate in our full range of activities. We deliver five core programmes: • Employment Support: developing career goals and learning skills for employment • Independence: developing skills and knowledge for more independent living • Health and Getting Active: regular sports and physical activity sessions • Opportunities: creative activities, including art, drama, music and digital media • Social and Emotional Wellbeing: focusing on supporting young people’s mental health “Without Caxton my son would never have gained the relevant social skills and friendships that have been so vital to his adolescent years.” Parent of Caxton member
