Mission Statement
A small homeless charity based in Deptford, South East London, England. We make change count for homeless people. We operate a Gateway day centre and seasonal Night Shelter which offers respite from the streets and access to our Advice Service, Learning Activities, Employability Support, Personal Transition Service and visiting Health & Well Being Agencies.
About This Cause
The 999 Club is a homelessness charity based in Deptford, SE London. Our work is focussed on supporting homeless people and those at high risk of becoming homeless to: • Access and sustain accommodation • Acquire skills that lead to further learning and employment • Enjoy improved physical and mental health • Enjoy improved confidence and self esteem • Develop independence and new networks The services we provide are: A Gateway Centre open weekdays with 2 sessions, the first for rough sleepers with provision of breakfast, access to a shower, IT facilities and a laundry. They are joined in the second session by other homeless and vulnerably housed people. The Gateway serves as a conduit to our other weekday services that include: • 1 to 1 Advice & Support to access housing, benefits, make appeals, prevent evictions and repossessions. Group sessions with regard to personal budgeting and tenancy sustainment; • Learning & Activities to increase knowledge and skills, employability, health and well being and express creativity; • An Employability Support Service offering 1 to 1 advice, job searches, CVs, skills development. Liaison with employers and training providers leading to employment, apprenticeships, work placements, volunteering, mentoring and training; • Visiting Health & Well Being services including: an NHS generalist nurse, Narcotics Anonymous, the Samaritans and CGL drug services attending regularly; an optician, podiatrist and mobile TB screening unit occasionally; • A Personal Transition Service, part of a national partnership with the Mayday Trust using an asset & strength based approach to reduce risky behaviour. We also operate a Night Shelter, open 7 nights a week, seasonally. Guests eat an evening meal, sleep in a dormitory, access the shower and eat a light breakfast. The Night Shelter also acts as a conduit to our other weekday services.
