Mission Statement

Aims and Vision The vision of the Haringey Play Association (HarPA) is to see every local child have access to high quality play opportunities and community provisions. Our work is driven by the need to give a powerful voice to children’s play so that awareness and understanding is raised about its role as a fundamental part of the development and welfare of children. We will give a powerful voice to children’s play, raising awareness and understanding of the fundamental importance of play in a child’s life. We will work to develop and support a diverse range of children’s play provisions and are committed to improving the quality of play experience in Haringey We will support play providers through representing their interests, providing advice and information and promoting interagency communication and cooperation.

About This Cause

All these provisions are free-of-charge to the children. • Somerford Grove Adventure PlayTerm time and holiday Adventure Play sessions – Core Activity. For young people aged 5yrs - 15yrs. Parents/carers are welcome • Summer Bike Projects - these sessions provide young people with practical skills,; help them to discover their local area and boost their physical health & well-being. Bike maintenance & bike rides for children & young people. Family bike rides too • Pop-Up and Holiday Play Sessions– working with housing associations. We run pop-up play sessions at local events • Estate Play Sessions - we work in some of Haringey's most deprived housing estates to put on free-of-charge play sessions working with Homes For Haringey and other social landlords. • SisterHood Project – Life skills and mentoring workshops embedded in free-play sessions for girls and young women. Funded by Children in Need until 2018. • Boyz Club – Pilot project similar to the SisterHood Project for boys. NOT CURRENTLY FUNDED. • Stay & Play - For parent/carers and children aged 5yrs & below. Sessions that empowered families to make positive changes and foster long term resilience through being part of the 'Play family' NOT CURRENTLY FUNDED. • Cook & Eat Sessions – Tottenham has one of the highest rates of child obesity and food poverty. HarPA is helping to tackle this by providing family cooking sessions that help families cook healthy and affordable meals • National Play Day – we work in partnership with Northumberland Park School and Park Lane Children’s Centre every year to host a National Play Day event for the local community • Advice and information sharing - HarPA links children and young people and their families to other services for support & guidance. We will be expanding our signposting and information role, integrating it with all our activities and growing it into the community.
