Mission Statement

Our mission is to transform the mental health and wellbeing of people living predominantly with dementia, and their families, through interactive live music sessions and putting the power of music at the top of the social agenda. It is also our mission to operate on every level and in all areas with professionalism, transparency, empathy, integrity and purpose.

About This Cause

Lost Chord has been established since 1999, is registered with The Charity Commission for England and Wales and prior to the pandemic produced more than 1,300 interactive musical sessions a year in more than 100 settings, affecting the lives of more than 2,500 people a month. Every session is designed to stimulate responses from people with dementia. through the media of music, song and dance. The Charity is a national member of the Dementia Action Alliance which has seen an enormous reduction in the use of anti-psychotic drugs in the care of people with dementia and the promotion of early diagnosis to help plan future care. The Charity also has links with The Great British Care Awards which has seen homes that it visits across the country receive awards for their care and compassion in the field of dementia. The Charity is dedicated to improving the quality of life and well-being of people living with dementia and related illnesses using interactive musical stimuli to increase their general awareness and self-esteem. During the Covid-19 pandemic the Charity also provided online music sessions when residential homes and day centres were under lockdown. Residential homes and day centres can contact Lost Chord to book a concert and there is a waiting list for residential homes and day centres to participate. As a result of the pandemic we have introduced the Ipad/Tablet 1-2-1 session whereby we perform direct to people living in bed. We have also introduced community interactive music sessions and Singalong Sessions which help build community, improve people’s wellbeing, help people gain confidence and create and strengthen networks post pandemic and help people to stay living in their own homes for as long as possible. Who do our sessions benefit? People living with dementia and related illnesses. Carers of people living with dementia and related illnesses. Volunteers who attend the sessions to support the musicians The musicians who are giving the sessions. The staff in the residential care home or at the memory cafe Basically anyone who comes into contact with the charity will be benefited in a positive way; hopefully even you reading this description!
