Mission Statement
Our mission is to support vulnerable children, women and families disadvantaged by poor health, disability, and social exclusion. We support these groups in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Afghanistan and the United Kingdom and enable them to overcome the barriers of poverty, social exclusion or disability in order to have their rights realised.
About This Cause
HealthProm is a UK based charity supporting vulnerable children, women, and families disadvantaged by poor health, disability, and social exclusion. We work in Eastern Europe, (including Ukraine), Central Asia and Afghanistan and with migrant communities from the region in the UK. HealthProm was set up 36 years ago by UK doctors and allied professionals to promote health education and knowledge exchange with the former USSR. We work in partnership with local organisations, governments and communities to develop better local services for children, women and families. Our projects and activities are focused on 1) Improving professional practice; 2) Strengthening families and communities; 3) Developing innovative services and 4) Advocating for policy reform. Over the past 35 years we have gained significant expertise in safe childbirth, the de-institutionalisation of care, palliative care for children, support for families of children with disabilities, inclusive education and migrant support services. Currently we also support Ukrainian and Afghan refugees in London by providing free English classes, employment support, mental health support, Youth Club meetings and any other supported required by our beneficiaries. HealthProm’s extensive regional expertise, combined with access to an established network of technical specialists in the UK, Europe and Central Asia, enables us to connect parents and professionals and share best practice. We have an excellent track record of delivering innovative training programmes and participatory forum meetings, organising regional professional conferences and international study visits. HealthProm builds local capacity, empowers local people and supports sustainable reforms. We assist local governments, professionals and civil society organisations in professional learning, strategy development, monitoring and evaluation, designing new projects and preparing funding proposals.
