About This Cause

XLP is creating positive futures for young people living on inner city London estates, struggling daily with issues such as family breakdown, unemployment and education failure and living in areas that experience high levels of anti-social behaviour and gang violence. Our key objectives are to help young people stay in school and out of gangs, to set goals for the future and to work hard to achieve them. XLP is in it for the long-haul. We know that long-term relationships and an investment of time and skills are key to enabling positive futures for young people. XLP engages with approximately 4,000 young people each year on a one-to-one and small group basis in schools and on estates. We use as series of discreet and interrelated projects including working in Communities through mobile youth centres (double decker buses), mobile recording studios, Sports and Arts programmes. In Schools, our Exclusion Reduction Programme works with those who are at greatest risk of permanent exclusion through group and 1-2-1 interventions and Literacy and Numeracy Support. Our mentoring programme works with a young person over a year to help them set goals and make positive life changing choices and help them to achieve them. Our Employability programmes help to remove barriers that hinder young people from moving into and remaining in employment and helps them to be work-ready.
