Carers often put their own needs last as they do their best for the person they are caring for. Carers can find it hard to take time for themselves and end up feeling lonely, stressed and unwell. We try and tailor our support to the carers individual needs take a look below to see what we can do for you. A carer is someone who spends a significant proportion of their life providing unpaid support to someone who couldn’t manage without them. This could be caring for a relative, friend or neighbour who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems. Adult Carers Support We have over 5500 active carers who are caring for parents, siblings, spouses as well as friends and neighbours. Whoever they care for, they can work with our caseworkers, who offer free, confidential advice and support for our registered carers. We have a full range of services like our Monday-Friday helpline, groups and activities, counselling, emergency card scheme, benefit advice and much more. Young Adult Support Being a Young Adult Carer can be difficult. From the ages of 16-25, we can offer education and employment support, groups and activities along with free and confidential advice in order to balance their life with their caring role. Help with Your Money As the cost of living rises, sometimes our worries do too. We want to help carers worry less about money by offering money-saving tips advice and information so carers can focus on their loved ones. We have a Benefit Advisor, saving carers £714,531.48 in 2021. By completing an assessment or review, some help funds may be available for those who are eligible. Help with your Health Carers often put their own health as a low priority, due to their caring role. It can be difficult to leave the person who is being cared for in order to attend medical appointments. Carers may also worry that admitting to having medical problems may be seen as not coping. In order to help carers improve their health and remain fit and well, Trafford Carers Centre offers a comprehensive Carers Health Check through our resident Carers Nurse, as well as access to talk to trainee counsellors and make friends through our befriending service. Adult Carers Resources Resources There is a great deal of information and advice available but it can be a frustrating and time-consuming process trying to find answers to questions that carers face on a daily basis. At TCC we aim to either answer your query with minimum delay or at least know where to seek the appropriate advice if not immediately apparent. Many specific conditions / disabilities have their own dedicated web sites which can provide specific help and advice When Caring Ends Losing someone close to you can be devastating and can leave you struggling with grief. Processing all the complex emotions you face may be hard especially when you're simultaneously dealing with the practical matters, such as registering the death and arranging the funeral. Whatever you are dealing with, Trafford Carers Centre can help you.
