Mission Statement

We help local people access justice and uphold their rights by providing legal advice on debt, housing, employment, benefits and immigration.

About This Cause

South West London Law Centres (SWLLC) is proud to make an impact in our communities by providing free legal advice to those in need. Last year alone, we helped over 6,000 ,people access justice. Our casework teams undertook casework and represented people in court, helping clients in need to stay in their homes, clear debts, resolve employment problems, settle immigration issues, and receive social security payments to protect them from being pulled into poverty. Additionally, through our volunteer lawyers program, we gave £1.5 million of free legal advice to people. Behind every number is an individual story of need. A former client highlighted the impact our services make in the lives of those we help: ‘I remember thinking we are going to starve; I can’t pay my bills and we will lose the roof over our heads ... I cannot thank you guys enough. Everyone that has been involved in my case has been so supportive and nothing but positive. I still can’t believe all this has happened because one man at Citizens Advice said, “Put your case to the South West London Law Centres and see if they can help.”’ Our mission is to help local people on low incomes across South West London to access justice and uphold their everyday rights, by providing specialist legal advice. Services we provide include help through: Our free advice clinics. We run weekly virtual clinics, where pro bono volunteer lawyers and trainee solicitors help around 3,000 local people each year on issues including housing, family, employment and small claims. Many people who use the service would not be able to afford to pay for the legal advice they need; and clinics are routinely over-subscribed. Eight out of ten people say they leave their appointment with a better understanding of how to resolve their problem. People who need extra help are referred to our in-house casework services or to further help elsewhere. Our casework services. We offer free or low-cost legal advice, casework and representation to local people, who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford it. This year those services benefited close to 3,000 people who came to our doors. Our solicitors and caseworkers are based in our offices in Croydon, Battersea, and Merton. We offer casework in debt, social security/benefits, housing, immigration and employment. Emergency housing advice and representation. We provide last-minute legal advice and representation to people facing eviction or repossession at Croydon, Kingston and Wandsworth courts, through the Housing Possession Court Duty Scheme (HPCDS). Last year we helped more than 1000 people in this way and also launched a new crisis navigation service to give people further advice and support to resolve their housing problems longer-term” We urge you to support our organisation and help us continue to provide critical legal advice and access to justice for our clients. Thank you for your consideration!
