Mission Statement
Alive & Kicking strives to help children exercise their right to play, to create ethical employment for communities in Africa and to help improve the health and quality of life of disadvantaged young people. This will continue to be achieved through the African manufacture and distribution of sports balls and the provision of health awareness and well-being programmes.
About This Cause
Alive and Kicking make hand stitched durable sports balls across three not-for profit centres in Ghana, Kenya and Zambia. Their operations provide ethical jobs in communities facing disadvantage for people who have never had formal work before. Proceeds from selling the balls in local markets and additional fundraising are used to train local sports coaches to deliver vital health education and to donate sports balls across community groups. Since 2004 Alive and Kicking have created over 1,000 employment opportunities, made over 1,000,000 balls, reached 90,000 young people with health education through their network of sports coaches and enabled over 8 million children the opportunity to access and play with a durable sports ball.
