Mission Statement
nsif was founded by David Nicholls after his son Daniel was paralysed whilst swimming off Bondi beach on his gap year. David made a promise to his son that he would find a way to enable him to walk again. nsif was founded on this promise in 2005 with the purpose of funding a cure for spinal injury.
About This Cause
nsif is committed to funding research and development into curing spinal injury. We believe passionately in pursuing a treatment through funding research and clinical work of the highest scientific standards. We support the work of Professor YIng Li and her team at the Institute of Neurology and Dr Pawel Tabakow, a leading neurosurgeon at Wroclaw Medical University. Together, they are developing a pioneering procedure to reconnect severed spinal nerve fibres. In 2014, they astounded the world when BBC’s Panorama followed the progress of their research and revealed that it offers real promise of spinal cord reconnection.
