Mission Statement
Our Vision - Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them to achieve their full potential. Our Mission - To help provide a lasting, positive impact on the development of children and the health and welfare of families from all backgrounds. Our Approach - Through a network of trained and DBS checked volunteers who are either parents themselves or who possess relevant experience, we support parents and children who are experiencing a variety of difficulties including: social isolation, illness, disability, post-natal depression and bereavement.
About This Cause
We believe that parents are the first and most important educators of their children. When parents are supported in their homes, they are better able to be involved in their children’s development, support their learning, promote positive behaviour and healthy choices, and provide safe and stable homes. Our non-judgemental, flexible approach is aimed at bringing together volunteers and families from diverse backgrounds and promoting fairness and inclusion, so that parents can build their resilience as they grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and widen their links with the local community. Home-Start Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham was formed in 1999 to support families who were experiencing difficulties, with at least one child under five, living in the inner London Borough of Westminster. Through our network of over 100 trained and DBS checked volunteers who are parents or have relevant experience, we now work in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham (on a pilot basis) to support over 200 families a year who are experiencing difficulties to make the changes they want to make in their lives before things escalate.
