Mission Statement
The Cure Parkinson’s Trust (CPT) has one bold aim – to cure Parkinson’s. We fund innovative research and inspirational scientists to deliver treatments that for the first time could slow, stop and reverse Parkinson’s. We offer hope to the 10 million people living with Parkinson’s around the world, and inspire them to engage with their condition and work with us to find ground-breaking new treatments.
About This Cause
Parkinson's is a neurological condition caused by dopamine neurons dying in the brain. The stereotypical view of Parkinson’s is shaking, but this disease can also be painful, can affect speech, cause depression, problems with sleeping, cognitive decline, and it can destroy the ability to live independently. It is estimated that 1 in every 37 people will be diagnosed with Parkinson’s in their lifetime. People living with Parkinson's still rely on the same drugs that were first prescribed in the 1960s, which can help to temporarily alleviate symptoms but do nothing to stop the inevitable and relentless progression of Parkinson's. The Cure Parkinson's Trust (CPT) is solely dedicated to curing Parkinson's. Founded in 2005 by four people living with the disease, we fund ground-breaking clinical trials and work with ‘can-do’ scientists to deliver treatments that for the first time will potentially slow, stop or reverse Parkinson’s. We have become recognised for our pioneering approach and we are already starting to see real breakthroughs in our research, offering hope to the 10 million people living with Parkinson's around the world. We firmly believe that the only way to find a cure for Parkinson’s is through collaboration – with researchers, clinicians, industry, other Parkinson’s organisations and people living with the condition.
