Mission Statement
Okénko CIC supports the Czech and Slovak communities in London through education and community activities. We run a supplementary school for children from nursery to age 15, and provide a range of cultural and social activities throughout the year. We strive for an inclusive and welcoming community that enables bilingual and bi-cultural children to feel secure and confident, helping them to build friendships and become capable and outward- looking European citizens. We do this by providing: - a safe, supportive and stimulating educational and cultural environment for children to improve their abilities in the Czech and/or Slovak languages, and enrich their understanding of the culture of the Czech Republic / Czechia and Slovakia - opportunities for families to socialise and take part in cultural activities that promote Czech and Slovak culture and bilingual identities (such as literary festival, St. Nicholas and Easter celebrations, range of outdoor activities, dance performances) Our community members support each other by volunteering as teachers and activity leaders. We also host several Erasmus + teaching students, as well as working with the Czech Language Club to provide Czech language teaching to adults.
