Mission Statement
Caring at the heart of our community
About This Cause
Sobell House Hospice cares for adults in Oxfordshire living with a life-limiting illness and supports their loved ones. Every year, we care for over 4,000 patients and their families. We help our patients to live well each day and die with dignity, surrounded by the people they love. The care that we provide is compassionate, dignified and centred on each person’s needs. Our expert staff take the time to get to know each and every patient, and their family and friends, as we accompany them through what is undoubtedly one of the most difficult and painful experiences they have ever faced. Our focus is on the here and now and making every moment count. By providing our patients with a better quality of life, we hope to give them more time making memories with loved ones, or doing what matters most to them. We help people get married, celebrate important milestones, and maintain their independence. At the end of life, we support people to live their final days as they choose to, and strive to give our patients a peaceful and dignified end, surrounded by their loved ones. Sobell House is part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH), and is jointly funded by the NHS and Sobell House Hospice Charity. Our services are provided free of charge. Sobell House Hospice costs around £9 million per year to run its core services. At least 25% of this is raised by the Charity. Simply put, without the charity’s contribution, many of our services would cease to exist - catering, transport, creative therapies, chaplaincy support, bereavement care, occupational therapy, social care, and many more services.
