About This Cause
ESDEG is a grassroots charity in direct contact with the community since 2005. We work in LB of Ealing targeting Southall and Northolt which are among the 10% most deprived areas in England (IMD 2015). Most of our trustees and staff are from the same community we serve and have personally experienced the same problems we are tackling. Our office is part of a community hub where members of the community visit seeking our help and advice on education, employment, housing, health etc. As a charity founded and led by people from the same community that we serve, most of our staff have personally experienced the same problems we tackle. Some of our service users return to us to volunteer and work with us. We successfully delivered many projects like: 1- Weekly supplementary school sessions for disadvantaged refugee children from BMER backgrounds to boost their attainment in English, Maths (Primary and Secondary) and prepare them for their GCSEs 2- A mentoring project to help young people from disadvantaged refugee BAME backgrounds to overcome their barriers to learning and integration by boosting their self-confidence, attainment, raise their aspirations and reduce the likelihood of exclusions and crime 3- ESOL for BAME refugee mothers to help them integrate better in the UK, help their children with homework and collaborate better with schools to prevent children from academic failure, crime and anti-social behaviour. 4- An elderly social club for refugees from BAME backgrounds to break their social exclusion, isolation and to provide them with a voice. Based on the concerns expressed by our participants, we invited professionals to give talks to our elderly clubs surrounding healthcare, housing and other issues. 5- A NEETs project supporting young people who are Not in Employment, Education or Training. We help and equip young people with the soft skills and the guidance to enable them to secure employment, education opportunities or training. 6- A UK Aid funded project providing booster classes to disadvantaged girls in Somaliland 7- Sports clubs providing yoga and football sessions to encourage exercise and healthy living 8- Summer trips for deprived families 9- Entrepreneurship summer workshops to empower young people to learn business skills; raise their aspirations and divert them away from crime and gangs.
