Mission Statement

HIV education through football coaching with young people in Africa

About This Cause

TackleAfrica informs, supports and challenges young Africans to make safer decisions, limiting the impact of HIV in their communities. We train and support African football coaches to deliver interactive HIV education through football coaching sessions to young people in their communities. All the learning takes place on the pitch in a way that young people enjoy, remember and understand. We support and train coaches to deliver these sessions every week for years. We believe a long term intervention is needed in order to achieve sustained behaviour change. We have over 100 drills covering all aspects of the HIV story including transmission, testing, treatment, relationships, condoms and much more. This curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated based on feedback from our beneficiaries, coaches and partners. We currently work in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia supporting a network of 465 coaches reaching 18,000 young people. We have a small team of 3 staff in the UK responsible for overall programme strategy, fundraising and marketing and a team of 15 African-based staff who deliver programmes in close partnership with local organisations and volunteers.
