Mission Statement
Our mission is to those in need who are homeless, hungry or socially disadvantaged across the borough of Richmond-on-Thames. We offer help in crisis and hope for life through our morning drop-in, our foodbank, community cafe and Roots, our skills based training programmes.
About This Cause
Close to the heart of Richmond-Upon Thames, the Vineyard Community Centre was opened in 2012 to meet the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable in our community. The Centre operates a drop-in service for people in need including the homeless and rough sleepers, with an accompanying nursing service; the Richmond Foodbank; a community café, and ’Roots’, our skills development programmes. We also run a charity shop which is open to everyone in the community. In 2016 we began the “Works of Love” sewing courses for trainees who start to learn as beginners and then move on to an advanced course. They gain accreditation certificates in the skills learned and are awarded by the national vocational and educational accreditation body AQA. The Centre is currently working on other pathways to recovery in response to the need of their visitors after they have been helped out of their initial crisis. We depend on volunteers (over 60) who help with the services provided and we are extremely thankful for this ongoing support. It costs £500,000 to run the charity and provide its local crisis support to over 2500 individuals. In the last year, we looked after 95 rough sleepers, helped introduce winter night shelter to the borough together with more homeless case working, prepared over 6,000 breakfasts, distributed 110 sleeping bags. The food bank provided over 2000 emergency food interventions from more than 190 local agencies. We are a voluntary organisation and rely on the generosity of our supporters and the organisations who choose us as their charity of the year. In order to continue our good work and provide the practical help to those in crisis and the restorative hope of a welcoming community.
