Mission Statement

The Deborah Ubee Trust (DUT) works to raise awareness of the value of emotional well-being, to offer early intervention and preventative therapeutic support to adults and children, and to promote good practice around therapeutic intervention. We aim to support marginalised people by offering individual therapeutic support. We also offer workshops and group work to facilitate change and to better equip individuals to cope with the challenges facing them. The types of therapeutic support we offer include; talking therapies, play therapy, art therapy, drama therapy, movement therapy, support groups, anxiety workshops, parent-child attachment courses and other courses like confidence and self-esteem. Our person-centred approach means we work predominately with vulnerable populations who do not engage well with statutory services, who are from deprived backgrounds or from low-income families.

About This Cause

Our clients bring a range of mental health issues often heightened by social and economic problems. While some clients may have experienced mental health challenges for the first time during the pandemic, others living with these challenges saw symptoms exacerbate. In the last 2-years we have seen a marked increase in self-referrals wanting support for stress, anxiety, isolation, and trauma. We have seen a growing need for support around: the cost-of-living crisis and unprocessed grief from loss and bereavement, high-level anxiety, and fear due to trauma from abuse and domestic violence. We also support clients who are recovering from trauma due to racism. We have a compelling reputation within the therapeutic community as supporters of professional development. We currently have 30 volunteers/sessional counsellors/trainee counsellors working with us. TDUT was established in 2011 in memory of Deborah Ubee, who lost her life to depression in 2008 after finding it difficult to access mental health services. Our ambition is to provide local, free and, easy-to-access support for those in crisis or experiencing mental health issues in order to help our service users move on positively with their lives, to increase resilience and independence and decrease poor mental health issues and isolation.
