Mission Statement

EMERGENCY provides free, high-quality care to people affected by conflict and poverty. We do this in a sustainable way: building healthcare facilities, training local personnel, and conducting search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean Sea. Founded in 1994, EMERGENCY has treated 12 million people in 20 different countries and currently operates in Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iraq, Italy, Sierra Leone, Sudan, and Uganda.

About This Cause

EMERGENCY's approach to humanitarian care provision is epitomised by the following characteristics: Training and employing local people. 96% of our staff in the field are local people, enabling them to have economic independence and security, as well as contributing to local communities. The exceptional quality of care and training. Access to quality healthcare is a human right and should be available to everyone. We provide the same level of training, healthcare, health standards, and hospital infrastructure as one would expect in a high-income country. Our long-term, sustainable focus. Healthcare cannot and should not be for the short-term. Fundamental to EMERGENCY’s work is to be sustainable, through building hospitals and training staff, with the aim of handing over management of the healthcare facility to local people.
