Mission Statement
EMERGENCY provides free, high-quality care to people affected by conflict and poverty. We do this in a sustainable way by building healthcare facilities and training local personnel, as well as conducting search and rescue missions in the Mediterranean Sea. Founded in 1994, EMERGENCY has worked in 21 different countries and currently operates in Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iraq, Italy, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Uganda and Ukraine.
About This Cause
EMERGENCY's approach to humanitarian care provision is epitomised by the following characteristics: Training and employing local people: over 95% of our staff in the field are local people, enabling them to have economic independence and security, as well as contributing to local communities. The exceptional quality of care and training: Access to quality healthcare is a human right and should be available to everyone. We provide the same level of training, healthcare, health standards, and hospital infrastructure as one would expect in a high-income country. Our sustainable focus: Healthcare cannot and should not be for the short-term. Fundamental to EMERGENCY’s work is to be sustainable, through building hospitals and training and employing local people. -- EMERGENCY UK is an affiliate of EMERGENCY ONG ETS (EMERGENCY), and is a Registered Charity in England and Wales (no. 1148818). EMERGENCY UK carries out fundraising, awareness, communication and recruitment activities on behalf of EMERGENCY in the UK. Projects in the field are operated by EMERGENCY.
