Mission Statement
Our purpose is to feed the hungry in South and East Leeds and to help people take control of their circumstances by addressing the root causes of their need. Working with others, our larger aim is to put an end to the scandal of hunger in Leeds and the UK. Our mission is to prevent any individual or family in South and East Leeds from going hungry as a result of food crisis. To do this we will have a food outlet accessible to every community in the South and East Leeds postcode areas, providing short term emergency food relief. As well as providing food relief, Leeds South and East Foodbank aims to connect people with other services that will help them address the longer term effects of poverty and exclusion.
About This Cause
We are here to feed people in the grip of food crisis and support them to build a more stable future. Well known effects of austerity, income inequalities and the pandemic make this task ever more challenging. We have a growing track record and reputation and we are keen to develop partnerships that enable us to build our capacity and infrastructure, extend our provision and play our part in confronting the causes of hunger in Leeds and the UK. We collect food donations from the public. These are sorted and stored in our main warehouse and from here we supply multiple outlets (11) around South and East Leeds. We have developed and trained a network of local agencies as e-referral partners. These might include health centres, children’s centres, housing offices and schools. Our clients access their local foodbank having been referred by one of these agencies and using a e -referral issued by them. Our food outlets provide a non-judgemental space where people, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender or background, can talk with a trained volunteer about the issues affecting them, receive an emergency food parcel and access additional support from a trained network of local agencies; including debt counselling services, benefits advisors, healthcare and mental health advisors and the Citizen's Advice Bureau. All of whom support our overall aims and ethos.
