Mission Statement

Vision Statement "Enabling children with life limiting illnesses to achieve their dreams." Taylor-Made Dreams will not only make dreams happen for children with life limiting illness; It will provide empathetic therapeutic support alongside their difficult journey and help leave lasting precious memories for families to cherish when time together is all far too short. Our vision is that children with a life threatening condition will have the opportunity to fulfil their dreams and also provide the family with support by trained therapeutic professionals. Primarily our aim is to assist in the creation of a unique 'Bucket List' which is 'TAYLOR-MADE' to meet the specific needs and desires of the individual child with a critical illness. Our objective is to enable children and their families to experience unique quality time and experiences together, which otherwise may not have been possible without financial and empathetic emotional support. "They call today the present because it's such a gift" - Ogden Nash Mission Statement

About This Cause

Taylor-Made Dreams is a charity ‘set up’ in memory of and inspired by the late Taylor Mitchell who sadly lost his battle of five years against a terminal condition in September 2011 at the age of just 15. Taylors' mother, Suzi Mitchell, recognised the gap in charitable services to realise the unique ‘Bucket List’ wishes of terminally ill children alongside the need for therapeutic support for the child and immediate family members. Suzi Mitchell is the founder and CEO of the charity and is supported by part-time paid and volunteer fundraising and office resource as well as an experienced group of Trustees. The charity became registered on 8 August 2014. Taylor-Made Dreams operates throughout the counties of Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey and Essex. We receive referrals from a wide range of pathways including NHS Children’s wards, Children’s Hospices, Children versus Cancer, The Royal Marsden Hospital, the County Council Social Services Disability Teams, and schools. To date the charity has supported hundreds of children and delivered over 2,000 bucket list items. Taylor-Made Dreams make dreams happen for children with life limiting illness and provides support alongside their difficult journey. We help create precious memories for families to cherish when time together is all far too short. Our goal is that children with life threatening conditions will have the opportunity to fulfil their dreams as well as providing the whole family with financial, emotional and practical support. We do this through a number of services: 1) Taylor Made Dreams assist in the creation of a unique 'TAYLOR-MADE' bucket list to meet the specific needs of each child with a terminal illness. The children's bucket list wishes were adapted during COVID-19 lockdown to incorporate an Amazon Wishlist of items selected by the children and play/sensory items for use at home. We have now reverted back to supplying bucket list wishes which include holidays and special days out. 2) Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we widened our provision to include weekly deliveries of essential groceries and toiletries to those children and their families who are facing financial hardship 3)The charity has sourced and financially supported hundreds of (ongoing) individual counselling, activity, holistic therapy sessions for service users and their primary carers. The therapy service is open to the child referred, the siblings and the primary carers of the family 4) The charity’s seven seated wheelchair access vehicle has enabled families to travel to activities, experiences and holidays arranged and provided by Taylor Made Dreams. 5) We provide children with a medical sheepskin fleece which relieves sores and pressure points. 6) We provide a travel grant up to £250 per family to assist with transport costs to get to ESSENTIAL clinical appointments. 7) We offer the opportunity of a family portrait experience in the form of a studio sitting. The family is presented with a USB containing up to 100 digital images and they are invited to choose a favourite image which Taylor Made Dreams has digitally transfer onto a canvas, a very precious memoir for the family after their loved one has left 8) We have a Sibling Support Service for the brothers and sisters of the unwell children. 9) We have a Technology Loan Library to help children who have communication difficulties. 10) We offer memory workshops and after the loss of a child, we present the family with a silver pendant in the form of our charity logo, a dragonfly; this permanent keepsake has the child’s name engraved on the reverse.
