About This Cause
The Ella Roberta Family Foundation is a registered healthy charity and was set up in memory of the late Ella Roberta on what would have been her 10th birthday on 24th Jan 2014. . It’s founders are Dr Colin Wallis Senior Respiratory Consultant (GOSH) who was Ella’s Consultant and Ella’s mum Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah who is the Director. The Foundation’ aims are to find out what caused Ella’s untimely death and why she became so chronic with asthma up until the age of 6 she had been well . The pathologist at her first inquest in Sept 2014 said “Ella had one of the worst cases of asthma ever recorded in the UK”. Ella became ill suddenly in October 2010 and by the time she passed in February 2013 she had been rushed to hospital some 28 times. At the time of her death Ella’s asthma was still a mystery as her triggers were still unknown and her death made very little sense. In 2017 Professor Stephen Holgate re-examined her case and found there to be a striking association with Ella’s asthma attacks and spikes in air pollution near her home on the South Circular. Currently the High Court have quashed the first inquest and have ordered a new one to take place. Ella’s foundation in her memory educates and raises awareness about the dangers of asthma amongst the general public. It promotes research into finding a cure for asthma. And promotes emerging research into what are the impacts of exposure to air pollution on human health. The foundation works with local groups as well as working to reduce air pollution in London, across the UK and internationally.
