About This Cause
HOW PCF STARTED PCF was founded by Jane Walker who travelled to the Philippines on a sabbatical from her work, she read in a newspaper about families being evicted from their homes in squatter areas. A taxi drove her to the largest squatter area in the Philippines where she saw thousands of children and families living and working on a open landfill site, Jane was so moved by what she saw she started a small day care centre which she privately funded for 5 years and then in 2002 registered PCF with charity commission and also in the Philippines. Jane is both CEO of PCF in the UK and the Philippines and travels between the two countries. WHAT WE DO PCF continues to work alongside children and families who live on the Philippine dumpsites and relocation sites, providing an integrated service plan in the areas of Education for children and young adults, university and vocational scholarships, Livelihood workshops where parents and young people make handmade handbags, clothes and accessories from the upcycled ring pulls from canned drinks, rice sacks and jewellery from glossy magazines, and shoes, wellington boots and sandals from aeroplane and inner tubes from truck tyres, and also runs two small vegetable farms and provides Business Skills Training and Small Business Start Up Loans. PCF runs a Health Clinic and Mobile Health Clinics, Fitness Training Programmes, Feeding Programmes and Cooking Demonstrations, and our Social Workers provide Counselling, Child Protection and Disaster Relief. Online training in wellbeing, financial planning, health and nutrition are in place for our beneficiaries and the wider community. PCF passionately believes in providing sustainable opportunities to help children and their families who live in the direst of circumstances achieve their dreams and to live happy stable and secure lives. This is achieved by providing support in all areas where poverty has become a stumbling block for the community. HOW YOU CAN HELP PCF runs a child sponsorship programme where you can sponsor a child through school and details of this are on our website and through regular monthly giving and one off donations. We offer volunteering opportunities selling our upcylced products and providing training and inspirational talks through zoom for our beneficiaries and fundraising opportunities.
