Mission Statement
We build families for children in need, we help them shape their own future and we share in development of their communities. We support their life to be independent rather than to be dependent. We create a cycle of self- sustaining economic environment. We try to address all their specific needs and give a Hand Up and not a Hand Out!
About This Cause
SLCF mainly focuses on relieving financial hardship, sickness, poor health and to advance the education of children in Sri Lanka, particularly but not exclusively for Orphans. SLCF aims to provide Hope, Joy and Future for children by providing them opportunities to increase their life chances. Poverty, war, sickness, and natural disasters can shatter and destroy a child’s future and confidence. Children should not become the victims of these factors. Each child should have a life. They should know the purpose of their life and SLCF helps each child to find their purpose of life. SLCF supports over 1,000 children via 7 beneficiaries across Sri Lanka. We are providing support across all communities and ethnicity without any specific focus beyond need. Our projects are mainly centred on safety, resources, education, developing skills and improving life opportunities in any way that will be helpful for children’s future. By increasing each of this child’s self-esteem and self-confidence we try to provide a valid meaning to their life. As a non-profit organization, we always try to find ways to help people who are suffering from poverty, epidemics, illiteracy and natural disasters all over the world. We hope to bring aids and spread love to any where we go. We are more than a group of people who share the inspiration in helping other people. We are wholeheartedly working as friends, family and a vibrant community of volunteers and supporters who think and feel alike. We bring education to the illiterate children, give the students whose families cannot afford to go to schools and unlucky children scholarships and opportunities to study further so that they can obtain their dreams. SLCF aims to redefine the concept of charity by reinventing the giving concept. Not just receiving by giving but trying to sustain by giving, instead of expecting more to be given. SLCF works to address the root causes of poverty and the marginalisation of vulnerable groups by building communities’ skills and promoting good governance within society and community organisations. Part of SLCF’s strategy, is supporting the districts that are highly affected with poverty and addressing mainly children, rural communities, single mothers, unemployed youth, and adults with special needs and equally distributing and contributing towards improvements across districts. Reducing digital disparities, encouraging entrepreneurial skills amongst the communities, encouraging cross fertilisation discussion of ideas between societies are key programme focused areas of SLCF. The projects are based on the concept of design thinking with zero based process reengineering, findings ways to avoid any intermediary costs and agile economy development. Using shared value creation as a basic concept, SLCF tries to identify breakthrough for self development and sustainability of an individual and society in the long run. Our Vision Our vision is of vibrant, articulate, inclusive, and sustainable rural communities across Sri Lanka contributing to a prosperous, equitable, peaceful, stable living for an individual and creating a well stable economic society. Our Values ‘TPIS’ is SLCF’s values slogan. TPIS stands for: Transparency: To be transparent as possible for our beneficiaries, partners, donors, business organisations and overall general public and provide a clear update on how the money is being spent Respect for People: Treating each and every individual with utmost respect Integrity: Being trusted to keep our words and deliver what was promised to our beneficiaries Sustainability: Redefining the concept of giving and continuous search in re -engineering any charity projects We treat our values as commitments and ensure all our actions are abiding to the values. SLCF redefines the charitable contribution process to alleviate the poverty in Sri Lanka in a competent and resourceful manner. SLCF works directly with institutions such as schools, local councils, hostels, orphanages, local care service centres, churches and temples in poverty-stricken districts and get access to the beneficiaries’ directly. The differentiation factor of SLCF is the concept of creating shared economic value through the selected projects such as creating a web development unit for education and installing hydroponic systems for development of entrepreneurial and agricultural skills. SLCF aims to do this by identifying opportunities in individuals and society and attain a different kind of development. Existing charity organisations in the market directly satisfy the basic needs of the children and families and increase dependency of the takers. Whereas SLCF tries to provide sustainability by supporting projects that focus on education, skills development, providing shelter and encourages the community to be involved in the participatory projects and bringing out the entrepreneurial skills by support business start-ups. This creates shared value creation within the community and reduces dependency on the givers. In the long term this process will become a continuous cycle and spread within nearby affected communities as well. According to CSR – CSV was proposed by Michael Porter and Mark Kramer, which states that organisations could bring business and society back together by redefining their purpose as creating “shared value”—generating economic value in a way that also produces value for society by addressing its challenges. (Michael E. Porter, 2011) SLCF services for the problem would be: Reduction of poverty through the provision of enhanced educational resources and reducing the digital divide by creating online access points to rural areas and disadvantaged children Investing in Hydroponic gardening that enables community to become self sufficient Investing to create small scale self-functioning sustainable socio-economic systems for the communities to become self sufficient SLCF impact of the services would be: Creating a long-lasting effect in the society High return on the investment as funds will be raised in £ and spent in Rs. Creating economics of scale with small investment with high societal impact and benefits gained in return Funding of small scale enterprises in districts outside the capital to ensure that the disparity of wealth and opportunity between the urban and rural region is mitigated This will lead to the following benefits in the society: Contribute towards the reduction of the poverty parity further down Enhance education in a cohesive manner instead of causing disparity between districts Improve life chances of many families by getting dependable monthly income Brings the nation together Will support to manage the consequences caused by poverty in an efficient manner
