Mission Statement

ALAG / Autism Hub is a user led initiative by and for adults with High-Functional Autism and Asperger’s. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for adults with autism by connecting people to resources, services and organisations/businesses within the community in order to enable them to live their life to its fullest potential.

About This Cause

ALAG/Autism Hub works to relieve the needs of adults with Asperger’s syndrome and related conditions, their families and carers, by providing support, information and advice. By this we mean our work is designed to address the unmet needs of people with autism who do not have a learning disability but who nonetheless suffer due to their vulnerability and social skills deficits which often increases the risk of becoming isolated and marginalised. The Autism Hub Camden / Islington is a user-led initiative for adults with high-functioning autism and Asperger’s syndrome. The Autism Hub exists to support people on the autism spectrum by providing expert advice, information, support through advocacy and sign-posting to ensure a seamless, continuous provision is delivered where the need is greatest. We run a weekly social drop-in where we facilitate Peer support delivered by our experts by experience who volunteer at the Hub and understand the benefits of sharing their experiences with those who are newly diagnosed. Our advocacy service is based on the individual needs of our service users and can involve providing support at meetings, assessments or appointments where individuals cannot effectively advocate for themselves. The Autism Hub offers Post-diagnosis support with our health partner, the Camden & Islington Adult Autism Diagnostic and Consultation Service (C&I AADCS) As part of this offer we provide specialist counselling service in a safe and confidential space with a BACP fully qualified and experienced counsellor specialising in autism and a trainee counsellor. We also offer Autism Awareness Training for professionals in the public and private sector. The Autism Partnership Board in Islington commissioned a consultation with local users, research and projects to provide evidence of need for a service for autistic adults who do not have a global learning disability. The idea for the Autism Hub developed out of this work with a user steering group and several research projects.
