Mission Statement
Our mission is firstly, to contribute to finding a cure and less harsh treatments for rhabdomyosarcoma. Secondly, we aim to support families at any stage of their cancer journey via our family well-being arm.
About This Cause
Alice's Arc is a children's cancer charity. We have two key areas of focus - funding research and providing support to help family well being throughout their cancer journey. We work with centres of excellence such as the University of Birmingham, Wellcome Sanger Institute, Institute of Cancer Research, Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal Marsden to fund research in to the discovery of novel treatments to treat the childhood cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma. We fund the roles of two research staff who are focussing on understanding the behaviours of these cancers as well as identifying targets and potential drugs that can be used. They are currently working on the design of a new clinical trial due to be launched imminently. This will replace the current rhabdomyosarcoma treatment protocol that has been in place since 2005. Another exciting project is the development of a bloody biopsy which can detect active rhabdomyosarcoma cells in the body. Our funds are also used to purchase laboratory equipment required to support research projects. We have a number of additional research opportunities in the pipeline. Our family well-being arm aims to provide support to families at any stage of their cancer journey. This could relate to diagnosis, treatment, remission, bereavement, counselling, psychosocial research, well-being packages and family support networks. This involves all family members - parents, siblings and the child with cancer.
