About This Cause

Pregnancy Options Centre (or ‘Options’) was established in September 1997 as a registered charity. In 2016, it changed its charitable status to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We are based in the Chichester area and historically served clients and schools throughout the Chichester and Arun Districts as well as the surrounding areas, including some areas of south-east Hampshire. Since our existence we have supported over 1,200 clients and engaged with 10,000 young people through our schools work. Options successfully delivers free, non-directive counselling to those facing an unplanned pregnancy and support for those struggling following an abortion or pregnancy loss, including miscarriage, still birth, ectopic pregnancy and termination for medical reasons. As a charity we operate from a discreet counselling room in the Centre of Chichester. We aim to see all clients facing an unplanned pregnancy within 48 hours of making contact. Clients seeking longer term support will be seen within 2 weeks for an initial assessment. We offer support face-to-face, online or telephone, increasing accessibility to the service. All our specially trained practitioners operate within the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) ethical framework, of which we are organisational members (membership 257016). Clients are regularly referred from GPs, Midwives, Mental Health Teams, and local voluntary organisations. The Education Project has been well established for 10 years, after it’s relaunch in 2014, and continues to develop year-on-year. Our sessions meet the RSE government guidelines and improve awareness of sexual health and puberty, consent, healthy relationships, the dangers of pornography, the pregnancy timeline, miscarriage, IVF and the three options of an unplanned pregnancy: abortion, adoption or parenting. They also focus on identifying key features of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE); control, coercion and consent. Options delivers sessions to over 2,500 young people aged 9-18 each academic year. We currently work with 13 local primary and secondary schools.
