About This Cause
RedSTART programmes increase the knowledge and financial management capabilities of young children, and help them begin to form positive habits in relation to money. This has a positive impact on their wellbeing as adults and contributes to a better life. We run a whole school programme consisting of Money Weeks (a series of 3 dedicated weeks of money related learning), a Money Matters workshop and Oakbank ( a school "bank" where the children can deposit "acorns" that they earn in school for good behaviour, being on time etc. The acorns can be redeemed for small items like pens and fruit or saved and used for larger purchases, building on the concept of delayed gratification and saving.) We measure the value and impact of the programmes we deliver on the skills and understanding of the children. As an example, the Maths SATs results in our case study primary school have increased by 13% since they started the RedSTART financial education programme. We currently work with 125 schools, and have reached over 27,500 young people so far. Our ambition is to reach another 55,000 young children in the next 3 years. This means scaling up what we do and building a robust delivery platform.
