We are committed to the following: ● Empowering individuals to advocate for themselves ● Growing a supportive patient network ● Improving understanding through education ● Cultivating and pioneering best practices for ethical patient-centered care ● Building an environment of collaboration and communication ● Accelerating and supporting science-based research ● Fostering receptivity to new discoveries ● Operating with integrity and transparency Our Objectives: The relief of sickness and preservation of health of those affected by Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and their families, carers and communities. In particular, but not exclusively by: 1. Raising awareness and understanding of the general public into the nature, causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and recovery of FND through social media, charitable events, medical conferences and any other educational means such as Leaflets and Booklets. 2. To coordinate a voluntary FND patients register to assist doctors in the advancement of new and ongoing research, prevention, treatment and recovery of FND in partnership with the Genetic Alliance 3. We work with Medical and Allied Health professionals to provide a better understanding of FND, improve medical protocols, and promote ethical standards for Functional Neurological Disorder through personal contact, advocacy and training. Our Activities: FND Hope UK will raise public awareness and understanding by creating educational and marketing materials such as leaflets, booklets and video’s to be disseminated via social media, medical conferences, post and charitable events. Our materials are created and/or approved by various FND medical professionals. FND Hope UK will also participate in sponsoring activities throughout the UK on 13 April, International FND Awareness Day. Through the support of research, FND Hope UK will promote the health and raise public understanding of FND by looking into the nature, causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of FND through the support of research. FND Hope UK supports ongoing FND research by fulfilling requests from researchers to provide evidence of need for their work by providing letters of recommendation. All researchers must provide evidence that their research has been approved or will be submitted to all necessary review and ethic boards before our organisation will endorse their work. We also encourage people to be involved in research at their own comfort level and in the following ways: Join Research Boards Complete Research Surveys Join Scientific Medical Registry Participate in Research Protocols Read Published Research Articles FND Hope UK aims to change how functional symptoms are understood and defined. We are committed to the health and well-being of those with functional symptoms and will join forces with others in a global network to advocate best practices for standard of care. We do this by engaging in dialogue with researchers, health professionals, NHS and other relevant organisations that operate ethically. We provide current information and dispel biased stereotypes and ill-conceived myths. We speak at medical conferences about FND and the need for collaborative communications between the medical community and patients. We empower those affected to achieve a better quality of life through healthy lifestyle choices and advocating for their right to care.
